Shopee Malaysia Raises Installment Transaction Fees

Effective May 6 (Beijing Time), Shopee Malaysia will adjust the seller transaction fees for the buyer-specific installment payment service, SPayLater. The new rates include the local 8% Sales and Service Tax. Notably, the fee for the 6-month installment plan will increase from 7.02% to 8.1%. These fees are charged based on the payment method and are only applied to completed orders. The platform advises sellers to take note of this adjustment and factor it into their cost calculations to maintain profitability.

Shopee Indonesia Initiates reKYC Verification, Warns of Wallet Freeze

Shopee Indonesia has recently issued reKYC (re-verification) notifications to some local stores, including individual and Mall shops. Sellers are required to complete the verification to update their data by April 22, 23:59. Failure to do so will result in the freezing of the shop's wallet function until the certification is passed. This move coincides with a period of intense regulatory scrutiny in Indonesia, where authorities have launched a 30-day crackdown targeting illegal imports of electronics, apparel, and cosmetics. Sellers must promptly complete the verification using independent, complete documentation to avoid fund freezes and compliance risks.

TikTok Shop Southeast Asia to Strictly Regulate Low-Quality Content

Starting April 24, TikTok Shop Southeast Asia Cross-Border will strictly govern low-quality, non-interactive e-commerce content. Content such as static images, slideshows, videos without narration, or those lacking substantive information will face penalties. The platform has outlined violation characteristics, including static non-interactive content, obscured creators, irrelevant materials, and lack of demonstration or interaction. This policy aims to enhance content quality and optimize the user shopping experience, pushing sellers and creators toward more engaging formats.

Southeast Asia Shipping Lanes Experience Space Shortages and Rate Hikes

In April 2026, Southeast Asia shipping routes have become the hottest sector in the global freight market. Driven by regional manufacturing shifts and pre-holiday shipment surges, ports like Bangkok, Thailand, and Ho Chi Minh City, Vietnam, are facing full container shortages. Freight rates for full container loads from Shenzhen to Bangkok have surged 40% compared to March, with a 35% increase to Ho Chi Minh City, and pickup times have extended to 5-7 days. To alleviate capacity strain, carriers are boosting services: Yang Ming Marine launched a new Xiamen-Singapore-Port Klang route on April 3, deploying three 2800TEU vessels weekly. COSCO and MSC have also added extra-loader vessels to Southeast Asia routes in early April.
