Shopee Malaysia Introduces RM0.50 Platform Support Fee

Shopee Malaysia's local store now charges a "Platform Support Fee" of RM0.50 per completed order (including 8% sales tax), used to fund AI assistant, logistics, and cross-border expansion upgrades. New sellers (registered ≤60 days), essential goods (rice, oil, salt, etc.), low-volume sellers (≤100 monthly orders or ≤200 with GMV ≤RM3,000), and textbook orders are exempt. Essential goods and textbooks will have fees deducted first then refunded in the third week of each month. New store exemption starts August 1, 2026; low-volume thresholds update monthly. This directly impacts cross-border sellers operating on Shopee Malaysia local stores, who should closely monitor their order volumes to avoid unexpected costs.

Thailand Finalizes Anti-Circumvention Ruling on Chinese High-Carbon Wire Rods

Thailand's Anti-Dumping and Countervailing Subcommittee has issued a final affirmative ruling on high-carbon wire rods originating from China, finding that the products circumvent existing anti-dumping measures by adulterating alloys to alter composition. The scope of anti-dumping duties is expanded to alloy high-carbon wire rods with carbon content ≥0.66% but <0.76%, with CIF-based duties imposed on three Chinese producers. Relevant Thai customs codes are listed. The ruling takes effect the day after publication. Cross-border sellers exporting steel products to Thailand must immediately verify product specifications and adjust pricing strategies to avoid retroactive duty risks.

Lazada Thailand to Raise Cross-Border Commission from August 1

Effective August 1, 2026, Lazada Thailand will adjust commission rates for cross-border sellers to promote long-term business health. Sellers not enrolled in the Premium Package (both Mall and Non Mall) will see a uniform 4.5% increase in base commission across all fulfillment types (LGS, FBL, Lite/3PF). For Premium Package sellers, commission rises from 7% to 8% (including FSM+LPI), a net 1% increase applicable to all store types and fulfillment modes. This is a significant cost hike for non-Premium cross-border sellers, urging them to evaluate Premium enrollment or adjust product margins to maintain competitiveness on the platform.

Indonesia to Fully Implement Single Export Control for Commodities in September

Indonesian President Prabowo announced that the single commodity export control policy will take effect on September 1, 2026, managed by state resource investment company Danantara to prevent underpricing and resource leakage. Previously, palm oil domestic prices were 45% lower than international (IDR 14,000/kg domestically vs. IDR 27,000/kg in Rotterdam). Within 1.5 months of the pilot, over US$10.5 billion in foreign exchange was consolidated, narrowing the price gap significantly. The government will revoke licenses of firms found deliberately exporting at low prices. Cross-border sellers dealing in Indonesian commodities should prepare for tighter regulatory oversight and potential supply chain adjustments.
