Shopee Unveils 245B-Parameter AI Model Compass for Southeast Asian E-Commerce
Shopee has disclosed technical details of its proprietary AI large language model, Compass, which features 245 billion total parameters and was trained on 12 trillion multilingual tokens covering Indonesian, Thai, Vietnamese and other Southeast Asian languages, as well as Portuguese. The company found that general-purpose AI models deliver significantly weaker performance on local e-commerce tasks in Southeast Asia; the same model may understand everyday Indonesian yet struggle to accurately comprehend the shopping search terms used by Indonesian consumers, causing some open-source models to score below 52% on e-commerce benchmarks. For cross-border sellers, a dedicated model means more precise search matching, stronger localization and potentially higher conversion rates for listings written in local languages.
Shopee Taiwan Raises Mall Seller Assessment Standards
Shopee Taiwan's local marketplace has announced that from October 1, 2026, the chat response rate threshold for Mall sellers will be raised from the current 50% to 70%. Meanwhile, activation rates for both store-to-store pickup and home delivery services must reach 100%, and all home delivery products must qualify for free shipping (orders over NT$490). Sellers must also enable the next-day delivery logistics service within the assessment period and maintain total orders of no less than one. Sellers failing any of these requirements will lose their Mall status, and existing qualified sellers will face periodic re-assessments.
Cross-border sellers operating on Shopee Taiwan should tighten chat-response speed and logistics readiness to protect their Mall badge.
Lazada Indonesia Sees Premium Brand Sales Triple in H1 2026
During the first half of 2026, sales of premium brand products on Lazada Indonesia tripled year-on-year, with apparel, home goods, electronics and beauty all driving growth. Premium apparel grew fourfold, home goods tripled and electronics rose 2.1 times.
The surge comes even as Indonesia's consumer confidence index hits a nearly nine-month low, indicating that some shoppers under economic pressure are deliberately concentrating limited budgets on high-quality, long-lasting goods.
For cross-border sellers, the data points to a resilient premium segment: while mass-market price competition stays fierce, products positioned around durability, craftsmanship and brand trust can capture a growing share of Indonesian high-end demand.
Indonesian 73M-Follower Influencer Vilmei Loses IDR 1.28B to Employee Fraud
Indonesian TikTok mega-influencer Vilmei, who has 73 million followers, has revealed that three long-time employees siphoned IDR 1.28 billion (about RMB 570,000) from her account over more than a year by converting balances into platform coins and purchasing virtual gifts, with the highest single-month theft reaching IDR 450 million. The employees also quietly slashed her self-developed perfume from IDR 250,000 to IDR 6,000 per bottle to inflate sales figures, potentially pushing total losses to as much as IDR 3 billion. All three former employees have been detained.
The case serves as a cautionary reminder for cross-border sellers and influencers managing high-value e-commerce accounts to strengthen internal financial controls and account security.
