Shopee Opens New Distribution Center in Brazil, Strengthens Northeast Logistics Network

Shopee has launched a high-throughput distribution center in the state of Ceará, Brazil, marking the first time this region is integrated into its core logistics network. The facility utilizes a cross-docking model, prioritizing rapid sorting and direct shipping over long-term storage, with a daily order processing capacity of 700,000 units. This significantly reduces delivery times and creates approximately 300 local jobs, boosting opportunities for small and medium-sized sellers. Combined with other new outlets, Shopee has established a nationwide logistics system in Brazil, strengthening its competitive edge in the regional e-commerce market.

Indonesia's Q1 GDP Grows 5.61% Year-on-Year

Indonesia's Central Bureau of Statistics reported a 5.61% year-on-year GDP growth for the first quarter of 2026, notably higher than the 4.87% recorded in the same period last year. Agency head Amalia Adininggar Widyasanti stated that the growth was broad-based, with key industries showing expansion. Manufacturing, the economic pillar, grew 5.04%; accommodation and food services posted the strongest growth at 13.14%; and transportation and warehousing increased by 8.04%. The government had previously forecast growth above 5.5% for the quarter, and analysts believe this performance sets a solid foundation for achieving the annual target of 5.4%.

Indonesia Expands Child Protection Regulations to Cover All Digital Platforms

Indonesia's Ministry of Communication and Digital has expanded the scope of the child protection regulation "PP Tunas" to include e-commerce, fintech, banking, and search engines, beyond social media and video platforms. The new rules require all electronic system operators catering to children to conduct risk assessments in seven areas: exposure, content, consumption exploitation, data security, addiction, and physical and mental health. Adult-oriented platforms must implement strict age verification to be exempt, with severe penalties for non-compliance.
