Shopee Indonesia Tightens Gold Product Sales Qualifications, Sets Registration Deadline

Shopee Indonesia has introduced new regulations for selling gold products to combat fraud and enhance buyer trust. Effective immediately, sellers offering gold items must be Shopee Mall sellers and obtain a "Gold Certificate" to be presented in transactions. This certificate must include details like a certificate number, gold purity, weight, and for diamond jewelry, relevant diamond specifications. Existing sellers in this category must complete their Gold Certificate registration by April 13, 2026. The platform has also banned the use of misleading sales terminology. This move significantly raises the entry barrier for gold sellers, compelling them to formalize their operations and provide verifiable product authentication to maintain their Shopee presence.

Shopee Singapore Permanently Bans Store Impersonation

Shopee Singapore has announced a zero-tolerance policy towards store impersonation, with violations resulting in permanent store suspension. Impersonation is defined as sellers mimicking another brand or store's name, logo, trademark, shop banner, copyrighted images, or other intellectual property without authorization to mislead buyers, gain trust, or commit fraud. Upon confirmation, the offending store will be permanently banned, the seller will lose account access, and no appeals will be permitted. The platform reminds all sellers that they are solely responsible for ensuring their store names, logos, and content do not infringe on any third-party IP rights. This strict enforcement underscores the critical importance of originality and IP compliance for sellers operating in Singapore.

Shopee Taiwan Adjusts SLS Shipping Label Specifications from March 30

Starting March 30, Shopee will gradually update the SLS shipping label specifications for its Taiwan site. The label size will change from 10cm*10cm to 10cm*15cm thermal paper. A transition period will last until April 13. Post-adjustment, sellers are prohibited from manually drawing labels; all printing must meet requirements such as barcode clarity. After the transition, non-compliant parcels will be returned, with sellers bearing the shipping costs and potentially facing penalty points. Sites like Brazil remain unchanged for now. The new label style will be rolled out in batches. Notably, if old-style labels are printed on the new paper during the switch, shipments can still proceed normally, providing some flexibility.

Indian E-commerce Giants Buck Trend: Flipkart and Amazon Expand Quick Commerce Dark Store Networks

While India's quick commerce sector slows expansion due to profitability pressures, giants Flipkart and Amazon are counter-trend investing. Flipkart's "Minutes" service, launched in August 2024, is expanding its network of dark stores from 750-800 to 1,200 by June, covering 220-250 cities, up from 70-75. Amazon is also accelerating "Amazon Now," soon to have around 500 dark stores. Meanwhile, early industry players are shifting focus to improving profitability. Notably, JioMart employs a hybrid model leveraging its existing retail network, achieving per-order profitability aided by its strength as one of India's largest FMCG suppliers. The competitive focus is shifting from pure delivery speed to category expansion and financing, with Flipkart Minutes now delivering electronics, where non-grocery items approach 20% of its mix.
