Vietnam Seeks Safety Guarantees for Its Ships in Strait of Hormuz
Vietnam's Maritime Administration has recommended the government coordinate with Iran to ensure the safe passage of Vietnamese vessels and crew through the Strait of Hormuz. Currently, 19 ships operated by Vietnamese enterprises are in the Middle East, four of which fly the Vietnamese flag. Due to regional tensions, the agency has requested Iran to prioritize the passage of Vietnamese-flagged ships, vessels with Vietnamese crews, and foreign ships owned by Vietnamese companies, especially those carrying crude oil back to Vietnam. It also seeks formal navigation permits from Iran to enable companies to obtain war risk insurance and has advised Vietnamese diplomatic missions in the Middle East to prepare for emergency support. This follows prior discussions between Vietnamese authorities, embassies, and shipping firms concerned about security in the Gulf region.
