Shopee to Raise Local Seller Commission Fees from May 21

Shopee announced that from May 21, 2026, it will increase commission rates and pre-order service fees for regular local sellers across multiple categories, including fashion, fast-moving consumer goods, and lifestyle, while electronics mostly remain stable. An 8% tax will be added to the new rates. Importantly, these changes apply only to regular local sellers; mall and cross-border sellers are unaffected. The platform is simultaneously raising the pre-order quota cap, including Saturdays as working days, and offering commission reductions on essential daily necessities. This move aims to optimize supply and improve the merchant operating ecosystem on the platform.

Indonesia Considers 'Shopping Ban' for Under-16s

Indonesian government officials stated on the 6th that they are considering implementing a "shopping ban" for individuals under 16 years old. The proposed measure is designed to prevent minors from falling victim to fraud on e-commerce platforms. While details are still under discussion, the policy would mark a significant regulatory move for the country's digital economy. Cross-border sellers should monitor this development closely, as it could impact marketing strategies and target audience segmentation in Indonesia, one of Southeast Asia's largest e-commerce markets.

Thailand’s Central Bank Raises 2026 GDP Growth Forecast to 2.1%

The Governor of the Bank of Thailand announced on Thursday that the country's GDP growth for 2026 is now projected at 2.1%, up from the previous forecast of 1.5%. Growth is expected to further accelerate to 2.6% next year. Governor Vitai Ratanakorn attributed this upward revision partly to the Thai government's approval earlier this week of a 400 billion baht (approximately $12.39 billion) loan bill. He noted that the earlier GDP forecast was based on a 300 billion baht loan scenario. The governor added that inflation in the third quarter will be somewhat elevated due to the subsidy policy package.

Meesho Q4 Revenue Surges 47%, Loss Narrows Sharply

Indian e-commerce platform Meesho reported a 47% year-on-year revenue increase to 353.1 billion rupees for the quarter ending March 2026, while net loss narrowed dramatically by 88% to 16.6 billion rupees from 139.1 billion rupees a year earlier. The company attributed the growth to rising order volumes and active transaction users, alongside logistics cost optimization and improved profit margins. Q4 gross merchandise value grew 43% year-on-year, with 717 million orders processed. Annual active transaction users reached 264 million. Notably, over 70% of Meesho's code is now AI-generated, and its AI recommendation system contributes more than 75% of orders, boosting conversion rates and operational efficiency.
