Shopee Vietnam Upgrades Shop+ Display Service

Shopee Vietnam has confirmed that its Shop+ display service will be upgraded effective August 13. The platform has not yet disclosed full feature details, but sellers are advised to monitor official announcements and review their storefront settings ahead of the rollout. The upgrade is part of Shopee's broader push to enhance seller tools and improve the overall shopping experience in Vietnam's competitive e-commerce market. For cross-border sellers operating on the Vietnam site, the change means staying proactive: check product listings, update store banners, and ensure mobile-friendly display formats are in place. As competition intensifies across Southeast Asia, such updates can directly affect store visibility and conversion, making early adaptation a practical priority.

Apple Pay Officially Launches in the Philippines

Apple Pay has officially launched in the Philippines. Visa and Mastercard cardholders can now add GoTyme, CTBC, UnionBank, and Metrobank debit and credit cards to iPhone and Apple Watch, using Face ID or Touch ID with dynamic security codes for transactions. The service is accepted at offline stores including Jollibee, Zara, and Rustan's, as well as online platforms such as Shopee and Foodpanda. Maya Business will extend the service to more than 5,000 online merchants. Visa and Mastercard executives said the rollout will accelerate the Philippines' transition toward a less cash-dependent economy, reduce payment friction for local users, and offer international visitors a globally consistent tap-and-go experience. Southeast Asia's mobile payment competition is now moving beyond digital wallet apps into NFC ecosystem positioning. Cross-border sellers should monitor adoption rates and consider enabling Apple Pay-ready payment gateways to capture higher-converting customers.

TikTok Shop Narrows the Gap with Shopee in Malaysia

Ipsos research shows that 71% of Malaysian consumers now use Shopee, slightly down from 74% a year earlier, while TikTok Shop usage has grown from 52% to 62%, sharply narrowing the gap between the two platforms. TikTok Shop's content-driven shopping model is gaining particular traction among middle-aged users, with adoption in the 35–44 age group surging 19%. On promotional appeal (70% vs. 72%) and user-friendliness (both 68%), TikTok Shop now closely rivals Shopee. Ipsos noted that Malaysia's e-commerce industry is shifting from user growth to deep operations, where blending social content with transactions is becoming the decisive competitive factor. For cross-border sellers, this means investing in short-video content and live commerce is no longer optional.

Malaysian E-Commerce Moves from Growth to Deep Engagement

The Ipsos survey also reveals a rapid rise in online purchases of daily essentials in Malaysia. Grocery buying online jumped from 34% to 47%, while beauty product purchases climbed from 29% to 45%, signaling that e-commerce is now penetrating routine consumption categories. Ipsos concluded that the Malaysian market is moving from user acquisition into an era of deep operational competition, where social content and transaction integration become central. For cross-border sellers, the message is clear: invest in localized content, live commerce, and repeat-purchase strategies as everyday categories and community-driven shopping reshape the competitive landscape. These shifts suggest that success in Malaysia now depends as much on engaging content and trust-building as on price and selection.
