Haier Launches High-End Horizon Refrigerator in Vietnam
Haier has officially launched its high-end Horizon series refrigerator in Ho Chi Minh City, Vietnam, marking its debut in the Southeast Asian market. The series features the world's first HCS moisture retention technology, magnetic control freshness technology, and a door-mounted ice-making system. Select models include AI-eye technology that automatically identifies and records food types and quantities. Also showcased was the Mailang series, which employs AI-powered full-space preservation technology for ±0.5°C precise temperature control. Vietnamese E-Commerce Enters Duopoly Era, TikTok Shop Hits 44% Share
According to a Q&Me report, the total GMV of Vietnam's top four e-commerce platforms reached $13.6 billion over the past year, up 37% year-on-year. Shopee maintained its lead with a 53% share but dropped 8 percentage points, with GMV growth slowing to 21% at $7.29 billion. TikTok Shop surged 83% in GMV to $5.96 billion, boosting its market share from 33% to 44%. Together, the two platforms command nearly 97% of the market, severely squeezing Lazada and Tiki, as Vietnam's e-commerce enters a duopoly dominated by Shopee and TikTok Shop.
Vietnam's Trade Deficit Hits Record High in May
Vietnam's trade deficit reached a new record high in May, driven by rising global raw material costs boosting import values and concerns over potential U.S. tariffs hurting exports. Data from the General Statistics Office in Hanoi showed the trade deficit widened to $5.21 billion in May, significantly exceeding the market forecast of $3.98 billion and the revised $3.99 billion deficit in April. Exports rose 18% year-on-year, below the 19.7% forecast, while imports surged 33.8%, outpacing expectations and underscoring the growing trade imbalance.
